Is the #OpenToWork Frame Hurting Your Job Search?
Using the ugly green "open to work" frame on LinkedIn is like wearing a giant neon sign that screams "desperate job seeker." This is the debate spilling over on LinkedIn for a while.
Job hunting is often compared to dating – you want to create desire, not desperation. After all, humans are wired to be drawn to confidence and self-assurance.
Does that mean we should shy away from signaling our availability? Why should we suppress our truth?
Here’s my take, embracing the "open to work" frame is not a sign of weakness. It's a declaration of readiness and willingness to explore new opportunities.
But yes, there's a fine line between being proactive and appearing desperate, but let's not confuse the two. For me, it simply means you’re being proactive and strategic in our career pursuits.
So, to all the job seekers out there, don't let fear of appearing desperate hold you back. Own your journey, embrace your truth, and let the world know that you're open to new possibilities.
The right opportunity is just around the corner.
